When people normally think about Artificial Intelligence (AI), it can have different definitions and meanings.  Some people may think of an advanced technology that can help human life and make it more beneficial.  On the other hand, there are always people that will find AI to be intimidating and will cause the downfall in human life.  Here we will discuss some of the controversies that surround AI and the possibilities that lead to negative thoughts of this new-aged technology.

                One cause for individuals to become scared, threatened, or intimidated by AI is due to the way that Hollywood and movies portrays AI.  We often see machines – such as robots or computers – that threaten human life and our existence.  Of course, the thought of extension in the human race will throw of a red flag in anyone’s mind.  But is this actually possible?

                Computer scientists and others involved in the world of advanced technology have built forms of AI, this is a known fact.  Even with the outstanding potential of these machines, they are still that – machines.  Computers have been made that can solve math problems, diagnose automotive problems, find errors in a sentence, and so much more, but these machines lack a basic principle that separates them from humans.  This simple item that we are born with and form even more through life is reasoning.  This can be explained further by the lack of emotions, especially powerful negative emotions, such as hatred, jealousy, etc.  Hollywood has noted this lack in human characteristics with its portrayal of AI, making them seem less than human.   

This brings up the question of creating an Artificial Human.  The creation of a “person” that can function in the real world and blend in as a human has been a fascination of computer scholars for quite some time. The controversy surrounding cloning has some linkage with AI and AI humans.  The formation of a human through an artificial form is something that has been discussed for years.  This brings to light the possibility of creating an AI human and the realization that this may be feasible in the future.  From here more questions arise.  If we are able to create life in an artificial form then what does that make us?  Would we be able to tell the difference between a human and an AI human?  Would we be able to control these AI humans since they are in essence a machine?  These are just a few simple questions that enter people’s mind when thinking about AI humans. 

            Only time will tell if an AI human will ever walk the same streets as its human counterparts.  But for the moment our focus is on the here and now.  However, it is certain that whatever is brought to light next in the AI community will have controversy surrounding it.
