Future Artificial Intelligence Capabilities

Page history last edited by Manuel 1 yr ago
The future of Artificial Intelligence, just like any other technology, is uncertain. Many predictions can be made but end up being little more than guesses. Despite this we must also understand that technology is only bound to human ingenuity and creativity. Thus, we will attempt to predict a few of the ultimate goals of A.I. technology keeping only in mind the vastness of human imagination and A.I.’s current development.
Artificial intelligence started as an attempt to understand in depth all aspects of human intelligence; over time it has grown into a scientific and technological field of study, finding its way into many unforeseen applications. Currently, we can find artificial intelligence in automated response machines, banking security, cameras, traffic lights and many other personal devices that interact with us on a day to day base. This being true we can safely predict that as AI’s capabilities increase, so will its range of applications, personal computers, cars, and cell phones. Like in moves such as “I ROBOT” and “THE MATRIX”, our world could be run by AI technology.
If all goes as planned, someday human like robots will one day exist. They will equal us in intelligence and surpass us in uses. This of course is the ultimate goal of any AI developer and researcher. Imagining a world where labor is cheap and perfect; where entertainment, companions, workers and everlasting computers will be held in one package. The idea of this is to improve overall human life, as Hans Moravec says “we'll all be living as millionaires.” This of course, is the optimistic view. Other darker points of view exist. With anything new and different, people always ponder about the negative outcomes. Many of these involve humans becoming obsolete and computers taking over the world, or A.I. retaliating against its creators and starting devastating wars against mankind. Hollywood has done a terrific job at imagining such horrors such as those seen in the “TERMINATOR” movies.
In any case, for better or for worse, A.I. is crawling its way towards reality. Although we are nowhere near creating true A.I., possibilities for this technology are already endless and anticipation for the future is a tangible element in this ever accelerating race towards development.
